K3 switches off during high power TX gain calibration

Dick Grolleman
Hi All

I finaly had my K3 working after five weeks and several replacement boards at 10 watts. I just installed the 100 PA. I'm up to do the high power TX Gain calibration

Started on 160, wich was ok. But have trouble on 60, 30 and 6m. When I press tune, the radio switches off it self.

Any one else had this problem? Any info is welcome

It sure takes a long time this way to get the K3 working received it 5 weeks ago, and still not finished

RE: K3 switches off during high power TX gain calibration

Dick Dievendorff
Are your power supply and the connections to that supply adequate?  Monitor
the supply voltage (using the K3 display) to see what happens when you press
Tune. I'm guessing that the voltage may be dropping.

Are you sure your power supply isn't sagging too much?  Can you supply
enough current for the rig?

Dick:

Is it possible that your PSU is going into over-current foldback protection
and dropping the output voltage down to nearly 0 volts?  What you describe
is characteristic of that problem.

try setting the K3 to 25W or 50W and see if the problem still occurs. If it
does NOT, then increase POWER (and the current required to generate that level
of output) until the problem again appears.
