K3

Roy Morris-6
Although the K3 has not hit the market yet, the question of whether this radio will be updatable has surfaced.  I am sure Wayne and Eric have their plans regarding this, and perhaps these are premature questions.  I will ask anyway.  Will the manual have a comprehensive troubleshooting section that will isolate problems to specific boards?  Will there be an exchange program for boards that need to be repaired or upgraded?  Will new upgrade (redesigned) boards be made available for purchase?  Will the K3 be as upgradable (beyond options) as the K2 has been?  Thanks.  Roy Morris  W4WFB

Re: K3

Rajiv Dewan, N2RD
A significant portion of the functionality of K3 is software
defined.  Elecraft has already indicated this will be 'one-click'
updateable using WinXP.   These kinds of modern radios can really be
modified significantly by software alone.  Consider the improvements
in Ten-Tec's Orion and Flex-Radio's SDR-100o over their 2/3 three
year lifespan.  Both of them are significantly better than when they
were introduced.  Now throw in the super customer responsive culture
of Elecraft and we can safely predict that the K3 will be steadily
and significantly upgraded on a continual basis.

Regards,
Raj, N2RD
K2 #5613 and K3 on order.
