K3

Phil LaMarche-2
Further report since Sunday.

The power from my K3 drops from 100 to Zero in about 5/6 seconds.  It does
that with any antenna/DL, any band, any power level when talking or pushing
tune at 15 watts. Going to send it back unless someone gives me a workable
suggestion to try.

Thanks

Phil

Re: K3

Phil, try unplugging and reseating the KPA3 board.  I had the same trouble and it worked for me.  I took off the top, one of the cooling fans and the right side panel and inspected everything carefully while I could see.  You might not want to take of the right panel, as I had to remove the sub-receiver and the brace to reinstall the regulator heat sink that is behind the receiver.  Removing the fans allows seeing the connectors to push from the bottom of the board, but might not always be required.  It is worth a shot.  The time I returned my K3 it was under warranty and the shippiing cost over $50 bucks each way.

It may not work for you, but it worked for me!

KPA3 access / removal

Ken Kopp-3
I haven't had trouble with my KPA3's pins, but did remove
it for inspection.  It's easier to remove the four screws that
attach the fan panel to the rear of the radio, then unplug
the two fan power connectors and the two leads to the
circuit breaker, allowing complete removal of the fan panel.
Provides much easier access.

Great idea Kenn.  Why didn't I think of that?  It is kind of hard to put the fan back in and those nuts that hold the fan are fragile.  I damaged one by popping off the screw cover.  Great Point!  You never know when you are going to learn something on this forum!
