K3 tx power issue

DD7ZT
Hello group,

a friend of mine has a strange problem with his tx power after upgrading
to firmware 3.03. However I couldn't reproduce it with my K3 (also 3.03)
so I'm asking here.

Following test: QRG 3,67 MHz LSB, no ATU, SWR 1:1,2 whistle to the
microphone (Heil) TX pwr max about 80 W

Tap xmit, pwr=120 W, again whistle to the mic, now also 120 W. Now it is
ok until you change the band or power off/on the TRX. Then is starts
again with 80 W. About the same with USB. Also the same with ATU.

Without PA he has 8 W when whistle, then xmit=12 W, now also 12 W when
whistle.

ALC about 4-7 bars. A calibration with the utility didn't solved the issue.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance!

Frank, DD7ZT (for my friend Dennis, DG6HD)

Re: K3 tx power issue

G'day,

looks like the maximum available power setting for SSB really does need
cropping to 100W in firmware.

Check TXG VCE - what is the setting?

I have read on this forum that the startup as shutdown settings are not saved unless you power down with the POWER button.  The K3 reverts to previous settings if shut down by powering down with the power supply.

I have not experimented with this, but could this be the problem?

Like a previous commenter, I don't think it a wise practice to operate at 120 watts because the purity specs are not guaranteed above 100 watts.
