K3 with N1MM question

wrmoore
I enjoyed last weekend operating SSCW with my new K3/10 and N1MM.  Both
were a joy to use!!  I have one curiosity however.  I have the K3 setup
for semi-QSK with a delay of 0.03 which works fine for me at about 25
wpm.  However, the keying through N1MM operates as though PTT is enabled
at the beginning of a transmission and disabled at the end.  In other
words, I hear no signals during the N1MM transmission.  I'm keying
through the RS232 port on the K3 from a standard serial port on my PC
(same cable as used for the CAT from N1MM).  I have PTT--KEY set to
OFF-dtr, N1MM set for DTR-CW, RTS-Always off.  Is there something I'm
missing?

I was running QSK with N1MM.  I usually set the delay to 0.  With
delay set to zero, I cannot tell a big differnce with QSK on or off
(on the K3) when using N1MM to key the rig.

Even if I go to QSK and/or set the delay to 0, I still hear the same
behavior - like the PTT is enabled throughout the transmission and no
signals are heard through the receiver.  When sending with my paddles, I
hear normal QSK behavior.  I must have some configuration parameter set
wrong in either the K3 or N1MM, or both!

Randy:
In N1MM, go to the configurator, hardware tab, and click on the Set
button for your K3. Make sure that the "Radio PTT via command" is NOT
checked.

Make sure you have not checked "Radio PTT via command" in
the N1MM set-up of the K3 COM port if you expect to be able
to operate QSK or VOX (semi break-in).

By any chance do you have Radio PTT via Command checked in the N1MM
Configurer for the K3 serial port? That would cause exactly the symptoms you
observed. Also, in the main Configurer window, make sure that there is only
one check mark under CW/Other (the one beside the K3 Radio port).

Randy, it sounds like you have N1MM set up to activate PTT via serial
command to the radio. Look in your COM port config page for a checkbox where
you can turn off "Radio PTT via command".
