K3 with SteppIR, MicroKeyer MK2 and IC-PW1 amp

Jim Spears

K3/100 S/N 2295 came to life last week.  Now it is time to integrate it into the main station.  It will replace a IC756Pro3 at the main position.  I have a MicroKeyer MK2 which outputs CI-V frequency information which is needed by both the SteppIR and the IC-PW1 amp.

Has anyone integrated a combination like this?  And are there tips you can pass on to speed up the integration effort?

You should be able to simply replace the CI-V output of the
ProIII with the CI-V output of the microKEYER II.  Connect
the PW-1 and SteppIR in parallel and both will follow along
with the simulated transceive data on the MK II CI-V output.
Configure Router for "TX Frequency,"  9600 bps and 6E ...
the PW-1 and SteppIR should operate just as they did with
the Pro III.

There are two possible "improvements" ....

1) you can move the SteppIR to the MK II iLINK port and control
it using the SteppIR protocol (available for any rig) which
will inhibit PTT while the SteppIR is tuning, add hysteresis
at the 25/50 KHz points and track the transmitter frequency
(vs. VFO A with the K3).

2) You may want to consider connecting the K3 +12V output to
pin 7 and ground to pin 2 of the PW-1 ACC connector.  This
should allow use of the PW-1 antenna switch with the PW-1
turned off (page 9 of the manual).
