This is a subject that has been aired many times on the server...(a) the
combination you are using (which is the same as mine) works just fine, & (b) you must be sure the K3 is IN VOX mode -- examine the display to make sure that VOX shows above the AGC entry to the mid-left of the screen. If it does not, the SignaLink will not work (i.e. the transmit lite will come on but you wiull get no action from the K3. Just press and hold the BAND DOWN side of the band button. I have put myself in the condition you describe numerous times by leaning too long on the band button. Ignore those who tell you to dump the SignaLink...it is an outstanding piece of hardware...I have two of them, one of which I used on an ICOM 910H and the other which I use on my K3 and on my K2 before it. You can use it with the K3 set on sideband, and with a super program like FLDIGI it works extremely well with RTTY and the myriad other digital modes. Its ability to work with SSB means you can even talk to the "upside-down" RTTY people on 10 meters from eastern Europe (using LSB) without gyrations. I have an ongoing, long standing problem with using VOX to key the K3 in Data mode.
My sound card is a Creative USB dongle. I use a CM500 headset/mic, plugged into the back panel. If I get the mix of volume, line in level and VOX gain high enough to reliably key the rig, the smallest noise in the room gets to the mic and keys the rig. Am I missing something? I don't get it, when you are in DATA mode it takes the Line In signal and
ignores the microphone input if you've configured the rig correctly, any input on the Microphone line should be completely ignored and VOX should work 100%. Still, on the K3 there is absolutely no need for any external interface like SignaLink (unless you just want to use it for it's built in USB sound card, but there are many cheaper options available), just hook up the K3 to the PC with standard audio cables and a serial cable/USB-serial converter, and use soft-keying (available with fldigi and hopefully other decent digimode programs), this also gives you full rig control... 73, Thomas M0TRN On 26 January 2012 14:48, Mike <[hidden email]> wrote: > I have an ongoing, long standing problem with using VOX to key the K3 in > Data mode. > > My sound card is a Creative USB dongle. Data|AFSK A uses SSB mode internally, so the mic is live, I suppose. I have no

After some nudges from the community prompted me to experiment further, I changed MIC
SEL from MIC+LIN to rP.H ant turned MIC+LIN on. That seems to have fixed it. 73, Mike NF4L On 1/26/2012 9:48 AM, Mike wrote: > I have an ongoing, long standing problem with using VOX to key the K3 in Data mode. > > My sound card is a Creative USB dongle. Mike,
While in data mode, press Menu, dial to "MIC SEL", ensure it's set to "Line In" not "RPL" or "FPL" (right or front panel), now the mic should definitely not be live and if it is (and triggers VOX), you have a problem with your rig and it needs to be fixed before you use data modes again. The selection is remembered separately for the DATA modes and SSB. No matter how loud I scream into the microphone I cannot activate VOX whilst in data mode. If the mic was live in data mode it would be appalling, you'd be putting background noise splatter in the PSK31 passband, for example! 73, Thomas On 26 January 2012 19:15, Mike <[hidden email]> wrote: > Data|AFSK A uses SSB mode internally, so the mic is live, I suppose. Got it, Thomas. For some long forgotten reason I had MIC SEL set to MIC+LIN. DOH!
