Why I may never buy a non-Elecraft rig:
My backup K3 (#2183) gradually developed an I/O connection problem at cold
temperatures but connected after a few minutes warm-up. I finally decided I
should do something before I totally lost the I/O. The following describes
my support and service experience with Elecraft:
10 March 11:45 AM, Contacted Gary Surrency AB7MY via email to described the
problem.
10 March 1:56 PM, Gary replied with a list of things to check.
11 March 11:58 AM, Using these hints, I discovered U1 pin 8 was well below
the -5V spec and emailed Gary.
11 March 12:47 PM, Gary authorized replacement to be sent.
12 March 3:18 PM, Elecraft sends shipping confirmation with tracking info.
15 March 11:37 AM, First Class parcel arrived and I installed and returned
defective board in same packaging.
Wow! Can you imagine how long this might have taken with another
manufacturer?
