I am trying to make a decision on which enclosure when ordering the 100 watt automatic antenna tuner. I am not going to be using the enclosure for a speaker or power supply. I normally use my K2/100 elevated ( 2 1/2 " ). Does the smaller enclosure come with a bail and feet or just feet ?
Maybe I am overlooking something. What was the purpose of going to the larger enclosure ? Comments are solicited. Hi, Jim-
Th reason for the larger enclosure is that a lot of ops prefer to remote the KPA100 together with the KAT100-2. This of course requires the larger area afforded by an EC2 external enclosure which can be purchased separately. The KAT100-2 kit slips inside the lower part of the EC2 enclosure and includes front and back panels. The KPA100 fits in the upper portion, its heatsink making up the top panel of the enclosure, just as it does when it is integrated into the K2. The self-contained KAT100-1 comes with standard feet, but a bail can be ordered. I use this bail on my KAT100-1. Since the K2 is placed directly atop the KAT100-1, it makes the bail of the K2 superfluous. If you are at all interested in remoting the KPA100, excellent info in this regard can be found at: http://www.fidalgo.net/~wa7gxd/k2kpa100.html 73, Mychael AA3WF K2#1025 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ... One of the best reasons for the larger enclosure is to install the KPA-100
in the same unit as the ATU and keep the K2 with it's battery pack and internal ATU intact. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jim danehy" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, November 09, 2004 5:27 AM Subject: [Elecraft] KAT 100-1 vs KAT 100-2 I am trying to make a decision on which enclosure when ordering the 100 watt automatic antenna tuner. There's been mention in the archives of a so-called "EC-1.5" possibly being
made available. I'm mainly interested in the KPA-100 to drive my KW but don't want to keep swapping covers or have to buy the KAT100-2 just to drive the amp input. The smaller cabinet would still allow me to mount just the KPA-100 and set it on top of the K2 for fixed use and just unplug it and take out the K2 for portable. Is such a cabinet in the works? 73 de Tom K2TA _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi
Sorry but after measuring on my K2/100 and one of my transverters that are in the same case as the KAT100-1 It appears the KPA100 is too big to fit into an EC-1.5. It looks like the only option is to mount the KPA100 into the EC-2 even if Elecraft made the EC-1.5 available. Thanks for the info. I guess it's swap-em-back-n-forth until the XYL approves the $280 for the KAT100-2 and EC-2. I'll start dropping hints for a February birthday purchase.

You could always mount the KPA100 in an EC-2 without the KAT-100-2 and add the tuner later, if desired. 73, Bob, N7XY _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
