Andrew,
There must be a lockwasher at one end of the standoff - it is an overall
length thing, so it really does not matter which end of the standoff the
lockwasher is placed. Do what seems right - yes, the manual says it
both ways, and that is confusing. It is easier to put the lockwasher on
when first mounting the standoff than it is to slip a lockwasher on top
of the standoff when attaching the second board to the other end - that
is all there is to it. The manual words are correct, the diagram is
older and shows the 'hard' way to do it.
