KBT2 battery arcs and gets hot on installation

jrb-3

Hello All-

Just installing the KBT2 battery. The first time I tried the battery
arced and became too
hot to touch for about half an hour.

Just tried again and there was no arc, but the battery started to get
warm so I pulled it
out of the bracket. The battery is not connected in any way, and yes
the foam is between it
and the bracket.

Any ideas?

Jeff

Jeff,

Sorry, but I can't help much without seeing it.  You do have a short across
the battery in some manner or another - if the battery is getting warm,
there is an awful lot of current being drawn from that battery.  Make
resistance checks from the K2 ground to the battery terminals (only with the
battery disconnected) and you should be able to find that short with your
ohmmeter - locate it and fix it is the only solution I know about - it could
be anywhere in the KBT2 wiring that you added.  Be certain you have the AUX
12V connector the correct way 'round, no exposed wires that could short to
the K2 chassis, etc.

If the battery is getting warm, you are likely heating up wires too - look
for spots where the wire may have been overheated.

Above all, be careful - a battery has a LOT of energy - Be quite careful not
to get rings, watches, other jewelery, tools etc. across the battery
terminals (or wires connected to the battery terminals) - an overheated ring
can do extensive damage to your finger!
