KCommunicate - new software for K2 and K3

Julian, G4ILO
If you are interested in a CW and data mode program for Windows that
will take advantage of the built in encoding and decoding capabilities
of the K3, there is some information and a screenshot of my new
program KCommunicate at
http://www.zerobeat.net/smf/index.php/topic,87.0.html . In the absence
of my own K3 I have added PSK31 and CW decode support using third
party software so I can use it with my K2. This program is the
diametrically opposite approach to HRD in that all the radio control
is done using the knobs and buttons on the radio. The computer is used
for logging and for sending and receiving data.

The program is not generally available yet although it is working well
enough to make some QSOs. If you are interested to know when it is
available to try out, subscribe to the forum and keep an eye on that
topic. This will probably not happen until after Wayne has added
support in the K3 firmware for getting the decoded text in a
packetised format and for detecting which data mode is in use.

Although my main interest is in making something I can use (on
Windows) and I don't intend making this my life's work as HRD seems to
have become for Simon, the program is being developed using Lazarus, a
cross platform development tool very similar to Delphi. Source code
will eventually be made available under the GPL for Linux or Mac
developers to port it to those platforms, or indeed for Windows
developers to add features or develop whole new versions, if there is
interest in doing so.

Please use the forum if you have any questions or comments about the program.

Sorry guys! It wasn't a deliberate ploy to get people to sign up to
the forum (honest!) but it seems that you have to join and be logged
in to the forum to access attachments to forum messages. I didn't know
that, but I just tested using the other web browser. I was wondering
why tons of people read the message and only two clicked on the
thumbnail...

I don't have a lot of time so I only write what I want to write. And I
have no need to operate the K3 (or K2 for that matter) over a network.
Plus the older programs were written in Delphi which I no longer have.
By using Lazarus I have the option to make Linux versions if I want to
move to that - always assuming I can't persuade a current Linux user
to do it beforehand. :)
