KIO2 connect to Ubuntu Linux

ArtLinux
My memory of how I connected my K2 to this Ubuntu 8.10 computer has
faded over the last year. Although the Ubuntu version then was 7.04,
the computer was the same.

I have been attempting to configure the com 1 serial port with the
root command:

serial:/dev/ttyS0?baud=4800+stop=2+parity=none

The reply is "file does not exist."

I see file size for ttyS0 as 0 bytes. Could it be that I need to
create a special ttyS0 file? Since I do not remember that step before,
I am a bit lost here.

Maybe there is a configuration program for com port config that does
not expect to write to a dial up modem!.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

The command you are probably looking for is 'setserial' and you may
need to install the setserial package using synaptic or apt-get.  Try
'man setserial' for syntax.  Most Linux programs which can
communicate with the K2 use the hamlib library (install the
libhamlib2 package).

Try using fldigi; it's in the Ubuntu repository, and you can use either
hamlib or (my recommendation) rigcat with the K3 option to control it.
Then you set the serial port via menus.
