Hi all: I am just nearing completion of the 100W upgrade to my K2. I am
unable to get the 1/4" 4-40 pan head screws to reach far enough through the board to "catch" the threads in the heat sink UNLESS I leave off the lock washers. Without the lockwashers, everything seems to fit perfectly. I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice on this. Thanks. 73 de Brian W3BW _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Hi Brian:
You might check the 3/16" diam x 3/16"long spacers at the 5 points "H"(pg 35) to insure they are installed *without* lockwashers. Good Luck! 73, Ken Wagner K3IU ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brian Wruble wrote: >Hi all: I am just nearing completion of the 100W upgrade to my K2. Brian,
Something is wrong - 1/4 inch screws should be plenty long - dumb question, are you really using the 1/4 inch screws? - they are NOT the black ones. The only thing the screw should pass through is the lockwasher and the transistor (yes the thermal pad too) before it hits the heatsink. Those transistors MUST sit in direct contact with the heat sink or they will not last very long, so do check carefully to be certain there is no gap below the transistors. That's the answer! Screws were black, face is red! Thanks. Brian
