KPA 100 glitch

George Winship, NC5G
My shack is in a separate building from the house and is not heated or cooled unless I am in there. Twice, since the weather has finally cooled here in Texas, I have had the following problem with my KPA 100. When I turn on the K2/100, the cooling fan immediately goes to high speed. When keying the rig, the display shows "Hi Refl" followed by "PA HOT". There is no output. Turning the power down to below 10 watts to turn the KPA 100 off allows the K2 to transmit, but the fan stays on. Both times that this has happened the shack temp was in the forties. After the shack and radios warm up all is normal again. Visual inspection has not revealed anything.

Any ideas on where and what to look for? BTW, the K2/100 has been in this enviroment for several years with no problems.

  George,

The first thing to check is the setting of CAL tPA.  If that does not
cure your problems, ask here again.

Re: KPA 100 glitch

Don,

Checked Cal tPA this afternoon. Shack temp was 70F. tPA was set at 5C. Should have been abt 21C. Reset to 21C. This the first time that I have looked at this since I initially set it several years ago when I built the KPA 100. If it happens again when the shack gets cold, I will recheck Cal tPa to see if it has jumped.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
