KPA-500 Combiner

Larry K1UO
Since a KPA-1000 or KPA-1500 have not come to fruition..how about making a Elecraft KPA-500 Combiner for stacking either two or three KPA 500's? Sell more KPA500's as required to go with the RF Combiner

Looking at specs show SWR <2:1 and 160-10M.
Could live with not having 6M but the 2:1 SWR spec may be unacceptable.

Re: KPA-500 Combiner

Yes....BUT....the SWR is NOT 2:1, it is LESS than 2:1. IMHO you will be hard
pressed to find RF circuits that would be less than 2:1 SWR and cover that
wide frequency range and if you do, you really need to look into marketing
'wishes' from that company! It can be done, but not at ham radio owners
price range. Look at the K3 specifications and tell me what max SWR the
transmitter will work into without a tuner?

Re: KPA-500 Combiner

On the other hand we are hard pressed to find a solid state amp that is
happy at 2:1 SWR.

I understood the note was <2:1.  It would be nice to know what it
actually is in the ham bands.

Re: KPA-500 Combiner

Keith Heimbold
Speaking of solid-state amps I am a happy SPE 1K FA owner and it says you can go up to 3:1 but it isn't very happy above 2:1. Nor do I run the amp on anything above 2:1. The warranty is also invalidated if you use an external autotuner and it breaks. Still a real nice amp but everything has its pros and cons.
