Atilano,
The K3 is waiting for a firmware load - MCU LD plus a blinking TX indicator is how that condition is displayed. I suggest you download the firmware again to assure that you do not have a corrupt firmware file on your computer, then run K3 Utility again to load the firmware. Load all the firmware, including the data tables. 73, Don W3FPR py5eg wrote: > Hi Folks: > > During a upgrade procedure of one of my K3 to version 3.11 a malfunction has occurred > > 1) A message asking to turn the K3 of and on again to continue the upgrade > 2) I tried to turn of and didn´t succeed > 3) I turned the power supply off and turned on again, and turned the K3 on > 4) The process crushed and with the display was off with "MCU LD" > 5) The TX led blinking and no way to turn off > > What should I do? > > Atilano > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

If you are using USB interface then try legacy COM port. Some kind of USB interface cause this problem. 73 aki ja1nlx py5eg wrote: > Hi Folks: > > During a upgrade procedure of one of my K3 to version 3.11 a malfunction has occurred > > 1) A message asking to turn the K3 of and on again to continue the upgrade > 2) I tried to turn of and didn´t succeed > 3) I turned the power supply off and turned on again, and turned the K3 on > 4) The process crushed and with the display was off with "MCU LD" > 5) The TX led blinking and no way to turn off > > What should I do? > > Atilano > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Don
Thanks for your help I already download the firmware. I try to run the K3 utility but there is no access to the upgrade transfer. The problem now is that the K3 does not turn on again. When I switch on the LCD has no light and only the message "MCU LD" and also the TX led blinks What can I do? Thanks in advance Regards Atilano ________________________________ De: Don Wilhelm [mailto:[hidden email]] Enviada: qua 27/5/2009 18:49 Para: py5eg Cc: [hidden email] Assunto: Re: [Elecraft] UPGRADE VERSION 3.11 Atilano, The K3 is waiting for a firmware load - MCU LD plus a blinking TX indicator is how that condition is displayed. Atilano,
Your K3 *is* powered on, and with the TX light blinking *and* with the MCU LD on the LCD, it is waiting for a firmware load. Follow the steps in the K3 Utility Help menu - "Troubleshooting" - "Force K3 into Firmware Load Required" to be certain the K3 is ready for the *beginning* of a firmware load. If you do not have the latest version of K3 Utility, that may be part of your problem. Download the latest version from the Elecraft website. 73, Don W3FPR py5eg wrote: > Hi Don > Thanks for your help > I already download the firmware. This turned out to be a hardware fault on the K3, but that's another story. At the time, I thought it was firmware, so I wanted to upload again from a different computer. It was much more convenient to do it on battery. The K3 powered on, showing MCU LD / blinking TX, but the K3 utility was unable to talk to the radio. It took some frantic correspondence with support before I thought about checking the battery voltage - which turned out be about 8 V ! Embarassing. 73 Jon LA4RT > > py5eg wrote: >> Hi Folks: >> >> During a upgrade procedure of one of my K3 to version 3.11 a malfunction has occurred >> >> 1) A message asking to turn the K3 of and on again to continue the upgrade >> 2) I tried to turn of and didn´t succeed >> 3) I turned the power supply off and turned on again, and turned the K3 on >> 4) The process crushed and with the display was off with "MCU LD" >> 5) The TX led blinking and no way to turn off >> >> What should I do? >> >> Atilano >> >> > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

For loud stations and ragchews I don't use headphones. I'm currently using my old Yaesu SP-8 but it hardly matches the K3 paint. Anything out there that looks (and works) better?

If you are only using one speaker on your K3, you are missing out. The K3
sounds better with two speakers and the SPKRS menu set to two. Even normal (non AFX) audio sounds better with two speakers. I like AFX set to Bin, but delay as also great. Try it, I think you will like it. I had two old 4 1/2" speakers I picked up at a yard sale. They had good size magnets so I gave them a try. They sounded OK. I then built two speaker cabinets out of 3/4" MDF. I made the outside dimensions approx. 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 10" deep, the same depth as the K3. I painted them satin black to match the K3. The speakers sounded much better in the cabinets and they look good also. Saved $200 and I think they sound better then the Japanese speakers in the metal cabinets. The Realistic Minimus-7 Speakers look good aside the K3. They are two-way,
with cast metal enclosures and were available in black and perhaps white. When set on their side, rather than bottom they are the same height as the K3. 8 Ohm, 40 Watt. Each speaker is 4 1/2" wide by 7 1/8" high x ~4 1/4" deep. They sound good on an external amp. Further, if you want an external amp, the Realistic STA-19 AM/FM Stereo Personal Receiver is a good bet. Not too big. It's width is about 1/4" less than that of the K3 and height is about 2 5/8". When the Minimus-7 Speakers are set on their bottoms aside a K3 with an STA-19 on top, they are a near match in height. That makes for a nice looking and decent sounding setup. The STA-19 with Minimus-7s was a nice set from Radio Shack/Realistic...some 20 years ago. The speakers were also available without the receiver. The STA-19 has proven reliable. The basic look of the Minimus-7s were used for quite a few similar speakers from RS. I seem to recall there were differences in the sound quality between different models. I am currently running my STA-19 driving a pair of Dukane 8" PA speaker in baffles. I may switch to the other as space needs change. I have an inventory of old Motorola mobile 4-1/2" speakers in plastic
enclosures. These seem to work quite well, and they're easy to acquire at swap meets and on eBay. They're not hi-fi, but they do present well for non-music receiving. 73, matt zilmer W6NIA On Sat, 06 Jun 2009 13:17:47 -0400, you wrote: >For loud stations and ragchews I don't use headphones. > I had two old 4 1/2" speakers I picked up at a yard sale ...
Many of us have decent hi-fi speakers sitting there on the desk already - in my case a lovely set of Bose PC speakers, a fantastic present from my YL. PC speakers (other than Bose anyway!) are cheap. They are amplified, have a wide frequency range and none of the booming or rattling resonances which my homebrew speakers always seemed to have. The Bose speakers have two sets of stereo inputs so I can run both the PC and the rig into them at the same time, controlling the levels independently on the PC and K3. It shouldn't be too hard to provide 2 inputs on others if you're willing to open the box and experiment. Alternatively, I guess you can run the rig's line level output into the PC sound card input, and configure the card to play it through the PC speakers, using the cound card's input level control to set the rig level and output volume control for both PC sounds and RX audio. You *may* need to use ferrites or decouplers to keep RF out of them but I've never had a problem with any of mine. Avoid any with nasty cheap switch-mode PSUs like the plague though! Most seem to run fine on 13.8V byt YMMV. 73 Gary ZL2iFB ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I'm currently using my old Yaesu SP-8 but it hardly matches the K3 paint. Anything out there that looks (and works) better? Steve,
I posted two photos on the K3 Yahoo group. The album name is K3 speakers.
