I have had the basic K2 up and going for a while, and have been using it
while I build the KPA100. Got the KPA100 built and all the inital tests were fine on RX. I came down to the shack today (school club statio) to align the TX (since I don't have a 50w dummy load at home) and I ran into a problem. I was adjusting C1 and all was fine. OK, on to the next step. I had the plastic handled screwdriver in my hand while reading the manual, and I dropped it. Right into the opened KPA100. A couple sparks went flying. It looks like it hit the ground jumper on the front of the board since there is a black spot on it. Who knows what else it hit. Here's the problem. Ever since then, I get the NO PA PS message, even without a PS connected to the K2. I can just plug in the PS to the KPA100, and it turns on. I also get audio from my antenna connected to the KPA100. There is no antenna connected to the K2. Then after the NO PA PS message goes away, the audio goes to zero (no antenna) but the rig stays on. Connecting the antenna to the K2 shows that it reverts back to the K2 antenna port. *BUT* it doesn't do this ALL the time. The other times I turn it on, it just thinks the KPA100 is gone entirely, and I don't get a NO PA PS message. It just turns on and is silent. Again, this is with EVERYTHING plugged into the KPA100. The speaker works all the time. Any ideas??? I am thinking (hoping?) it's just a chip that I can order easily. Where should I start testing? Here are my voltage readings taken from everything on page 23:
U1 pin 1 - 1.35v U1 pin 7 - 1.97v U1 pin 13 - .00 U1 pin 14 - .6 U1 pin 15 - .4 U1 pin 20 - 1.2 U1 pin 27 - 2.0 U1 pin 28 - 2.0 U2 pin 10 - 13.4 U4 pin 1 - 13.4 U4 pin 11 - 1.4 U5 pin 1 - .05 U5 pin 7 - .05 U6 pin 6 - .01 Definitely some problems there. Sounds like U1 is bad??? -Chris KL9A On Tue, 2006-05-09 at 22:21 -0400, [hidden email] wrote: > I have had the basic K2 up and going for a while, and have been using it > while I build the KPA100.
