KPA100 Upgrade

Elliott Lawrence
What are the specific incremental upgrade changes to go from C to D?  My amp is revision C so if I  wanted to make only those changes, what needs to change to make it a D?  The amp runs just fine as built

Hi Elliot:

I would recommend that you download the instructions from the Elecraft
website and review them. Also, if your amp runs fine as built, then you
perhaps you might not want to upgrade to Rev D.

Go to the Elecraft web site (www.elecraft.com) and, under "Manuals and
Downloads" get KPA100UPKT.PDF It'll show you exactly what changed.

As Wayne observed in an earlier post here, it's not needed if your KPA100 is
working FB.

Hi Elliott,

At the left-hand side of the Elecraft home page , choose Manuals nd
Downloads.  Scroll down to the block entitled K2 and Accessories.  At abbout
the middle of that block you will see a file entitled KPA100UPKT.  When you
open it, you will see a pdf file that you can print out.

I actually found the same file by a more circuitous route, but someone (I
think it was Ron, AC7AC)
posted this one and it works well.

Wayne replied to my similar question that these changes were intended to
remedy a
possible interaction between RFC10 and the 40 meter bandpass filter
components which had been found to cause problems in rare instances.  Since
my own two KPA100s showed no issues, I decided against making the mod at
this time.  But if propagation continues to be poor this winter, and my
craving for the aroma of melted solder becomes too strong to resist, I may
update my amps just for the fun of it_ha!

73,

John, W2GW

Elliot,

The KPA100 problems that were solved with the upgrade typically involved an
oscillation on 40 meters that might occur if the KAT100 was also in-line.
If your KPA100 is working fine, you should not have to do the upgrade.

OTOH, if you do want to add the change just to upgrade your KPA100, the kit
and instructions are now on the Elecraft website.
