KPA100 capacitor question

oe9fwv
hi,

I am working on the KPA 100 and I have a problem to identify C26 (33pF,
50V) and find C 41 (100pF, 101) in the provided capacitors.
I found one disk capacitor labelled 33, CO, but then I cannot find C5F, which
should also be "33", but 500V or 1KV.

>From the 100pF, 101 should be QTY 2, I cannot find them in the capacitors
bag.

thanks for your help,
73!
Werner

Re: KPA100 capacitor question

Werner,

Unfortunately, there is no universally accepted way of marking
capacitors, so I can only guess a bit here.

What I do know is that the 100 pf capacitors that have shipped with
recent Elecraft kits have short leads.  Those small leads tend to hide
themselves stuck in other components.  Investigate any capacitors that
you have with short leads - 100 pf will be marked '101' (plus other
manufacturer's markings).  Look in all the bags and search for
capacitors sticking in things like the tape on the relay tube and similar.

As for the 33 pf capacitor, what is the diameter of the one you have in
hand?  If it is approximately 1/4 inch diameter or smaller, is is the
one to use at C26.  The C5F capacitor would be a larger disk ceramic or
it might be one like the other yellow high voltage capacitors used for
the Low Pass Filter.

I found them! They were in a bag for updating the K2, but my K2 was
already up to date and so I did not need them. They are very small shiny
dark yellow with short legs and a "101" label.

ok, identified both. The 33pF 50V is pale brown, and the C5F is shiny yellow
and larger.

Thank you very much for your quick help.

But when I sorted the capacitors, I found that I miss one of the "151" types,
150pF, 1KV, I have only 4 of them packed and there should be 5 after the
parts inventory.
I'll have to ask "spares at elecraft.com" for support.
It is recommended and a good idea to count the parts in advance, although I
would always drop this part of the manual :-(
