I have recently completed my KPA500 kit #623. The amp was a beautiful build and it's features are outstanding. I'm a little concerned with a input drive issues on the 14 and 21mhz bands. It takes 49 watts on 14mhz and 50 watts on 21mhz to achieve 500 watts output.
I have been in touch with the factory, but so far they don't see any issue of concern.
I have created a chart which shows drive power per band for 500 watts output as measured on a bird watt meter.
I have also made adjustments to the KPA500 menu PWR ADJ for each band so the amplifier watt meter reads as close to 500 watts as possible as compared to the external Bird watt meter.
I'm wondering if any of you kit builders have actually calibrated your watt meter beyond the default 100 readings on the PWR ADJ menu? If so I would appreciate your numbers per band. Also I would appreciate the PWR ADJ numbers per band from any of you who have factory built KPA500 amplifiers. I'll be happy to supply anyone my data file for comparison.
