KPA500 low RX sig when amp is in OPER

kd4iz
All,

My KPA500 amp, (#2208 kit built), was acquired used but well cared for. It
has operated perfectly for several years until today. I was in QSO on 40M
when the amp threw a fault and the signal strength of received signals
dropped markedly. When I put the amp in standby, the signal strength of the
received signals returned to expected levels. I do get a TX power indication
appropriate to the drive level on keying up. This issue does not clear when
the power is cycled.

I have done a cursory RTFM and find there is not a circuit diagram in the
manual nor a description of how to interpret the fault (beyond the plain
text listings). I have not yet had the time to dig into the archives at
Elecraft or look through the files on the website.

If this "symptom set" sounds  familiar and/or you can point me to where and
how I could troubleshoot, I will be quite thankful.

Best regards,

KD4IZ

Jack,

This fault has been reported several times and usually turns out to be a
problem in the KPA500 T/R switch area.
I suggest you consult with [hidden email] for guidance on how to
proceed (fix it yourself or send it in for repair).
