KPA800 / KPA1500: status update?

I guess this is a question for Wayne and Eric.
I am on the market for a linear amp and I would love to buy an Elecraft amp instead of Tokyo Hi-Power for instance. I am not in a terrible rush but I would really like to do it in the next 3 to 6 months. I was wondering if there is any progress with the KPA 800 and KPA 1500 and what is the rough estimated time of release for those amps? Any chance for one of those models to out by ... lets say April - May? Just want to know so I can make a decision what and when to buy - no sense for me to wait with the amp if the Elecraft models are not very close to turn from prototype to a real product.

I stopped reading this reflector nearly a year ago, when I became
involved in an international relocation. When I left, the KPA800 and
1500 were "real soon now", people had seen them, all the details were
out, just waiting for one more approval or something fairly minor. The
K3 existed only in fantasy, it was more of a tongue-in-cheek wish-list
"what I'd like to see in the ultimate K2 upgrade" kinda thing, nobody
thought a K3 would really HAPPEN any time soon...

Now I return to the reflector, nearly a year later, the K3 is real (and
4 or 5 people have evidence to suggest it's shipping!), but the
KPA800/1500 are still "real soon now"? What's going on?

The amplifiers were delayed for a time when new FCC regulations came out
which permitted operation on 10/12 meters out of the box as long as
certain other frequencies were blocked (and I think some other things).

In my opinion, this meant that the amps and the K3 would be coming at
more or less the same time.  Elecraft has limited resources, the K3 is a
far more important product, and so the introduction of the amps was
delayed again.

Yea, the KPA talk did disappear pretty suddenly.  I suspect the amps
have been temporarily shelved in favor of focusing all resources on the
K3.

compliant.

Actually, the main reason for delay on the KPA800/1500 Amps was the K3.
Almost 12 months ago we decided that we could not bring both the
amplifiers and the K3 to market at the same time. It would be just too
much of a strain on the company, both fiscally and engineering resource
wise. We made the business decision to delay the amps in favor of the
K3. (A relatively easy one when you look at the total revenue/profit
difference between the two.)

Since the K3 was still a well kept secret at that time, we couldn't
really say much in public about the reason for the delay on the amps.

We will not put the amps back in the process of final engineering
release until we are fully caught up with the K3 backlog and we are in
full production. I suspect that will go over well with those of you who
are -very- patiently waiting for your K3's. :-)
