KRC2 Manual configuration?

Joe Hetrick-2
So, I'm doing battle with my least favorite piece of Elecraft gear to
manage...my KRC2.

A while ago it started acting funky and after a lot of hassle I was able
to update the firmware (though it was already current).  At that same
time I must have updated the bandmap but only now realized that it's not
correct.

For the life of me with various PC's both with real and with
USB-->Serial dongles the most I can do is re-flash the firmware,
consistently; but I *cannot* write a new bandmap.

Typically the config tool will see the KRC2 once and spit out the 1.6
firmware notice; after that in order for it to be seen again, I have to
power cycle it, at which point I've tried to shove a bandmap on it, but
it always fails, and never seems to have the changes I've made.

I would just wire-OR the 3 bands of interest; but; whatever map is in
there does not activate those 3 bands, ever, yet, due to another
mapping, they do still source 12V as they should, just not when I need
them to!

Is there _any_ way to put a bandmap in by hand that doesn't use the
config tool?  Is the format documented so I could generate it myself and
put it on via an alternate method?  I'm not concerned with whether or
not I'd need to write some software of my own to do this..  I just want
the thing to function for me again!

73,

Joe KC0VKN

Joe;

First thing - with the V1.6 firmware, if you want to restore the default bandmap configuration, power up the KRC2 while holding down the F4 key.

The real KRC2 Configuration Tool is now on the Elecraft web site. Uninstall any other KRC2 COnfig Tool versions and use this one. It should work just fine for you.

After trying these two things, if you still cannot get things working, let us know.
