One of the reasons I chose the K3 was eventual 10-MHz ext. reference
capability. Well, then I guess someone will have to come up with a 49.380 PLL circuit that uses 10-MHz as a reference. I have two such critters for mw use. One is distributed out of Israel and will be used in place of my 1152-MHz LO for 1296-MHz transverter (144-MHz IF). The other (ApolLO-A32) will replace the LO for my 3400-MHz transverter (also 144-MHz IF). Should be easier to do at lower frequencies. The new line of VHF/UHF transverters from DEMI will have ext. ref. option available in the future. It is already available on their mw line (2.3-GHz and up). 73, Ed - KL7UW ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Wed, 09 Jun 2010 12:49:16 -0400 From: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card To: [hidden email] Message-ID: <S364279Ab0FIQtQ/[hidden email]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1" This question is one I have been asking annually at the Elecraft booth at Hamcom in Dallas for the last 2 years. I will be asking again on Friday. The last information given was in jun 2008 when I was told "availability in Jan 2009", heard no dates since! Based on this I didnt order the high spec reference for either of my K3. I have been pushing for this for a long time as it would be nice to be able to feed my 10MHz Rubidium standard into J3 to get near precise calibration. I suspect that the problem is due to the internal reference oscillator of all our K3s being different. Although the KREF3 schematic shows the oscillator to be on 49.380 MHz, we all adjust this during the K3 calibration procedure. (Mine is on 49.379744) I could be wrong, but I shall await Wayne's response. 73 de David G4DMP ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I can certainly understand the need to prioritize other K3 features and accessories before producing the external 10 MHz Reference module. Eric's statement seemed to me to be as near to a definitive "no it isn't" as you are likely to get. It's a pity. It was a pretty unique selling point for the K3. The only other transceivers offering this facility that I can find are the much larger and more expensive IC-7700 and IC-7800 and the much less functional ADAT (if it really exists.) Julian, G4ILO

Hi Julian
The ADAT web page has not been updated in 2 years. Their marketing is almost non existent. One would assume it is just an experimental platform like HPSDR. Who is really going to sink 6000 dollars into an experimental project? After the German magazine review identified spurious products in the receiver, not much has been heard from ADAT since. I expect that the ADAT transceiver will fall apart just like the Hilberling project did. Its a pity that this fine transceiver will not make it to the marketplace. I certainly wanted to buy one.
