After several pots of coffee, the problem was
found. I gotta take up drinking. The problem was on the subin board. T1 toroid,
2 of the wires did not have all of the coating removed and did not take the
solder well. Very evident after tracing it down to the board. I wicked the
solder out and scraped some of the coating off and resoldered. My K3 is playing
like a fine instrument again. This might be something to check
before installing the Sub Rx. I hate those intermittent.

Hello from Germany,
for no other of my radios I payed so much money and none of
these I had to open so often due to problems...
It started with the VCO-eror while being on Grenada for the
CQWW-CW. God to have the TS480 as backup with me.
That problem is hopefully solved so
far.
Today I tested the Sub-RX and it was dead on the main
antenna. I remembered some mails concerning the SUBIN-board and one of the wires
of T1 was soldered with the coating...
With paying almost 4000 US$ for a radio I expect quality
and not these problems.
73 es cuagn from CT9L in the ARRL-CW with a TS480 as
backup
