KRX3 + RX antenna

Franki ON5ZO
Group, forgive me if this has come up before (which it has has) but contest
fever kicks in.
It seems that for the first time I have a "kinda" RX-antenna (solder still
hot!).

If I want to listen to both the 80m vertical and the RX loop at the same
time, is this all I need to do:
- set both receivers to the same frequency
- connect RX antenna to "AUX RF BNC"
- set KRX3 to "Ant = BNC" in the config menu

Is that all there is to it?
TNX / 73
- Franki ON5ZO = OQ5M in contest

Don't forget to hold the sub button so that the diversity mode  kicks in.

It may seem obvious, but be sure that you also routed one of the TMP cables
to the AUX connector!

OK, I got it nailed. I thought I forgot something but it works. I hope the
K9AY loop will be the added value to my SB80 effort.
It'll be the first time the KRX3 will be really put to use too after 9
months of mounting the option.
I assume the 2nd RX (aux RF) is protected against RF pickup from the TX
antenna?

If you are going to run QRO you will want the RX loop a long way away
from the TX antenna.  For example, you cannot have the TX antenna
within the sides of the RX loop. Arranging antennas for Diversity or
split operation should be done with that in mind and tested in advance
of applying high power to the TX antenna.  I would suggest you begin
testing at 5 watts and increase the power incrementally a few watts at
a time until you notice clicking or popping in the TX antenna when
using QSK on CW.  You should do that with SSB also [No QSK there ;o)].

It does take more real estate to have separate TX and RX antennas, but
I don't know what the separation should be.  You'll have to experiment
with it.

See "Question re K3 diversity reception" thread on subreceiver protection
http://n2.nabble.com/Question-re-K3-diversity-reception-td1664307.html#a1664741

quote
"The KRX3's AUX input is protected by a gas-discharge tube, bleeder
resistor, and carrier-operated relay. It is very unlikely to be
damaged. However, activation of the COR (which you would hear as you
key the rig, etc.) can be disruptive to T-R sequencing. If you hear the
COR relay go on, I'd strongly suggest that you either reduce the
coupling between the two antennas or provide external switching or
shorting (this could be done via the KEY OUT jack on the K3).

73,
Wayne"

I made a relay driven by key out to disconnect my K9AY from my K3 subreceiver. AY Technologies used to sell one, but it is no longer available.
