My older Sony Vaio laptop gave similar indications when one of its three USB
ports gave up the ghost. The other two worked fine.

Subject: [Elecraft] KUSB Adapter
I am unable to get my KUSB adapter to function. I have an older Sony Vaio
laptop running Windows XP Pro and have tried all of the suggested options
for installing this device. It appears that the drivers install fine but
when you plug in the adapter, it is not recognized and comes up with an
error message to the effect that the device is non-functional. I've tried
un-installing and re-installing the drivers from both the supplied CD-ROM,
the Elecraft download site, and the Prolific site, all with no success.
What in the world am I doing wrong????
