KX-3 #4540 on the air!

KE7HGE

I finished assembling my KX-3 late last night, and started playing this
morning. My first contact was checking into the OHANA Net (Hawaii). I was
given a report of 4-1, which seems pretty good for a trip of 2,686 miles on
12 watts! The surprising part, is that I have the radio transmitting into a
Gap Eagle, which has never performed all that well for me. One day soon, I
may need to use some of the tower parts I have been collecting and put a
tri-bander in the air.

Mark me down as a happy camper J

Kx-3# 4540

Whidbey Island, WA State

I lead a well ordered life; random is an order.

Ken,
Sorry my friend. You need to pick better frequency/time pairs or
improve your antenna.

There are a number of us over on the East Coast who are getting Q5
reports with just 5 Watts. Check out NA1DX's page. But seriously, do not
be surprised at what you can work QRP. When conditions are good, you
should expect to really reach out and touch other hams a long way out.

     Congrats and best of luck!!
