I am in the process of putting together the Elecraft KX1. I have done a few kits before (SWL rigs etc.)but would not be considered a great builder. I have been working on the kit as time permits for the past week....and I have to say that so far it is going great. The Elecraft directions are awesome and I am forcing myself to go slow and check everything. It turns out that this is a more enjoyable way than trying to "get it built" ASAP.
I just finished the Assembly Part II and the testing. It looks like it went just fine and I am picking up some great signals. This thing sounds great to my ear. I almost hate to unplug it and start building again...I want to listen! This may be an obvious question..but when I am doing the testing, in particular the resistance tests I would like some assurance. The tests that require results less than 5 ohms etc. are fine. When I am testing U6 and pins 1, 2 & 7 for greater than 10K, I get a reading of "infinite" on my DMM for pins 1 & 2 and then about 22.7K for pin 7. Is it OK that 1 & 2 are infinite rather than providing a reading? I saw this same sort of result on some other checks too. I know that infinite is larger than 10K....just not sure that is the reading I should get here. Any advice would be appreciated. It is a gorgeous day here and I am supposed to be outside doing yardwork. It's just gonna have to wait....I am going to keep on building this rig. 73 de Keith KB3ILS _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Kieth,
That infinite reading is OK - infinity is a very large number and does indeed qualify as 'greater than 10k'. With resistance charts like this it is difficult to know exactly how each and every meter thaat might be used will respond, and that is the reason the chart contains quantities similar to '>10k' rather than absolute values. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I am in the process of putting together the Elecraft KX1.
