KX1 D2 Voltage checks high

Steve Watkins
The voltages I'm seeing on both the cathode and anode of D2 are higher than called for in the manual.  I am seeing  approximately 0.225 volts a.c. on one end and about 0.110 volts a.c on the other end of the diode.  Pins #1 of U1 and pin #6 of U3 show about 3mv.

I rechecked to assure the three capacitors mentioned in the note at the bottom of page 28 were installed in the correct orientation, and also rechecked the solder connections.

The note mentions stray a.c. may be being picked up as noise and to try a different DMM.  I do not have another DMM at the moment to check it with.

Any ideas from my Elecraft family?

Should I continue on or not proceed until I get this corrected or checked with a different DMM?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

Steve,

Those AC voltage measurements are intended to check your power supply
ripple voltage (and noise pickup).  The AC is *NOT* coming from the KX1
and is not an indicator of any KX1 problem.

The solution is to use a cleaner power supply.

If you are using one of the 'wall-wart' type power supplies, *DON'T*.
Use a good regulated power supply or a 12 volt battery (gel cell or other).
