KX1 Help

Paul Gates, KD3JF
What can I do to get more output on my KX1 on 20 meters?... Would
like more than 1.5 to 2 watts. Am using 13.5 V battery.

Paul,

How much power do you get on 40 meters?  If the KXB3080 is installed,
what is the 30 meter power output (30 is usually the highest output
band).  If the power output on 30 meters (or 40m) with a 13.5 volt
supply is 3.5 to 4 watts, you should work on the PA output, but if your
30 (or 40) meter output is also low, look for something wrong in the Q1,
Q4, Q5 circuits.

You could try replacing the PA transistor (Q6) with the new one used in
the KX1 - 2SC5739.  It seems to have more output at higher frequencies
than the 2SC2166.  If you do make the swap, remove the shoulder washer
from the PA mounting hardware.

There is a possibility that your Low Pass filter is tuned too low.  Try
spreading the turns on L1 and L2 as much as possible.  If you have the
KXB3080 option installed, compress the red turns and spread out the
green turns.
