Hi Nick,
I've checked the relays and they are working OK as far as I can tell using
my multimeter. I would say that it's only a little deafish - but 20m has
been so poor it's not easy to tell. But I have a decent watt meter and am
getting 3 watts on 30m and 40m but 2 watts on 20m. Construction is OK
(IMHO) - didn't mangle anything.
Maybe relay K2 is not firing properly (am sure it is) - anyway I'll wait
until I get the K1 kit sorted out then I'll do a side-by-side comparison up
on a mountain top. I live in a ski resort so am quickly up at 2,200 masl and
there are nice spots at 2,500 masl. I'll post any findings here.
Aside: the K1 looks like a nice simple radio to use - good job the K2 cannot
be used portable at all ever whatever. Don't need no K2 - but I do have a
few weeks holiday in January with nothing to build. Maybe a few snowmen?

Simon,
I had a similar problem with mine and found faulty relays K1 and K2.
These are very sensitive relays. I believe they were very slightly touched
on the outside with my soldering iron.
You can check the relays when switching bands.
Replaced both of them and solved the problem.
Desoldering and taking the relays out is a bit tricky. I used desoldering
litze and lots of patience.
