KX1 RF gain pot question

John Shadle
Hi all,
I was wondering if the KX1 users out there have any comments about the
RF gain pot. Mine appears to be working, but it doesn't seem to do that
much (i.e., little difference between "low" and "high".

Is that everyone else's experience as well...or might I need to check
something somewhere?

Here's what I know:
-the pot is "good" (tested with DMM)
-good solder joints
-other parts are in the right place

Thanks.
-john

RE: KX1 RF gain pot question

Yeah, that sort of design is pretty much "on" or "off", and off is usually
down at "minimum", Hi!

It acts as an input attenuator in the rx antenna circuit. Mine is full up
all the time (and I have the AGC disabled because I like using my KX1 as an
RF "voltmeter" measuring the audio output to compare signal levels). With
the AGC working the AGC will try to compensate for turning down the RF gain
by raising the audio gain as much as it can!

You will find  that the RF gain control is very useful if you ever find
yourself in quite close proximity of a very strong signal. It does a decent
job of cutting down powerful locals so they don't overload the NE602 mixer,
but otherwise it's seldom needed.
