I've been trying to figure out how the heck to use the SIG menu item in my
KX1. There's virtually no description of how to set it up, other than the cryptic notes in the Menu Functions section on page 65. Can anyone explain what the parameters (eg) H5 and L84 are supposed to mean, and exactly what procedure should be used to set the S-meter? Am I the only stupid one, or do the guys at Elecraft just think we can figure this one out by using psychic abilities? The manual is normally so darn good, but then virtually zip on this topic. Joel,
You first must set the 'DISPLAY' to the S-meter mode - then: The Lnn parameter is set for no bars with no signal (antenna disconnected), and the Hn parameter is set to adjust the high level end. If you have a signal generator with a 50 uV output level (like the Elecraft XG1 or XG2), you can set the indication to S-9 with that 50 uV input. The Lnn parameter must be set first. The numbers you see are the default values or the previous settings. If you still have problems understanding the sequence, please ask again. 73, Don W3FPR Joel Weder wrote: > I've been trying to figure out how the heck to use the SIG menu item in my > KX1. Hi Don,
Thanks for your reply. If you have any pull with the manual writer, you might suggest they add this procedure to it. I never would have guessed, for instance, that I must set the L parameter first. H and L weren't mentioned in the procedure on page 65. And also, the first thing you see in the SIG menu is the H parameter. (the one you're NOT supposed to adjust first) By the way, I can't see it being as easy as you suggest. When in the SIG menu, I won't be able to see the S meter display. So presumably there's going to be several iterations of going in & out of the menu items. Joel,
Yes, it does take several trial integrations to find out what number works. 73, Don W3FPR Joel Weder wrote: > Hi Don, > > Thanks for your reply. > > If you have any pull with the manual writer, you might suggest they add this > procedure to it. Hi Joel,
I'm the guilty party. Strangely, no one has pointed out the minimal nature of these instructions before. Good catch! I've added this to the list of future KX1 manual improvements. Let me know if you find anything else. 73, Wayne N6KR _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
