Well, there is no speaker in the KX1... I hate earbuds, headphones, earspeakers, earphones... All of them. I hate stuff in or on my ears and head. Yesterday I opened up my Apple itouch 3G. It has a speaker, a really tiny thing. Hummm... Measured eight ish ohms... Humm. It would easily fit into the chassis of the KX1! So the question is who makes those nano speakers? Anyone.... .....anyone? I,don't think I want to steal the driver from the itouch. Or iPad for that matter. Just took a glance only at Mouser online and they stock speakers down to an
inch or less diameter. Most of the ones they list are 2.4 kHz "sounders" which you want to steer clear of unless that is what use like to listen too. But I did see a 22mm speaker with good bandwidth. I have had great luck with the small amplified speakers from Rad Shack or
E-Bay. Shaped like tiny men they put out incredible audio and are rechargable by your computer USB port. I have several so I never run out. Charge is good for about 5 hours I guess. Use them with my K1 now and they are superb !!! 73 George Osier , N2JNZ -----Original Message----- From: Jim Rhodes Sent: Saturday, September 01, 2012 10:24 PM To: Phil Townsend Cc: Elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KX1 Speaker Mod Just took a glance only at Mouser online and they stock speakers down to an inch or less diameter. I picked up a set of folding amplified speakers designed for use with an
iPod (or similar) at Walgreen Drug about a year ago. They sound great for their size, are powered by AAA batteries (or a 6 VDC wall wart - not included), and the cost was only about $10. Those speakers provide a compact solution to clear stereo audio from my KX3, and are small enough to be used portable. My KX1 internal speaker is mono, and is only used in situations where other audio transducers (headphones or external amplified speakers) are not possible. 73, Don W3FPR On 9/2/2012 8:17 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > I have had great luck with the small amplified speakers from Rad Shack or > E-Bay.
