KX1 TX Cold Problem

WA3WSJ
Hello,

Has anyone had transmitter problems with your KX1 in below freezing
weather?  I took my KX1 out on a Polar Bear Moonlight Madness Event this
past weekend and had 0w output after hitting the tune buttons?
The swr on the tuner indicated 9.9:1 on an antenna that has tuned well.
I borrowed my friends K1 and it worked fine on the same antenna.
The outside temperature was around 20'F. I put my KX1 on the bench at
home and it seems to work fine with no intermittents?

Re: KX1 TX Cold Problem

Ed,

I occasionally have to "incubate" some liquid yeast culture for about 24 hours for making homebrew mead and other types of wine and found that by keeping the plastic pouch of yeast close to my body keeps it at the ideal temperature without overheating it with an electric heater or some other method.  It is strange taking the pouch to bed with me, and the XYL wasn't too happy about it, but it worked well.  You might have to do the same to the KX1 to keep it the right temperature while operating, however I hope it is something that you can get fixed otherwise.
