KX1 VFO noise

k4elv
I haven't used my KX1 since I completed assembly a few weeks ago.  At that time all seemed well.  In preparation for a trip I got the unit out to test it.  I found that as the VFO was tuned a "popping or clicking" noise is heard each time the display moves.  I seem to recall seeing this mentioned by the group but I can't find a reference.  Any ideas?  External battery voltage is approximately 12.4 volts.  Internal batteries also mimic the noise.  Thanks,  Mike K4ELV

Hello Mike
I have only some noise if I tap or hold the VFO knob, but nothing
if I tune the knob.
No idea about the reason

Hi, Mike.

I only ever hear VFO "clicking" when there is a very strong adjacent signal.

For example one time I was using a 44ft doublet at 30ft at a campsite,
and I was operating on 30m, around 10.120MHz.  Suddenly a very very
strong commercial RTTY station started up around 10.130MHz.  Now when
I tune from 10.120MHz down to 10.110MHz I get "faint clicks" as I
tune.  If I tune from 10.120MHz up to 10.130MHz, the clicking got
stronger.

So I assume it's something connected to the AGC?

I don't know if that helps :)

Martin.
