KX1: need some help...

Tom Pallen
I'm having a number of problems with KX1 options and I'm hoping to
get some guidance from the reflector participants.

The KX1 went together w/o a hitch. Performance matched my Elmer's old
rig and life was good. Then came the 3080 option that required
re-work. I followed the instructions and now there are problems.
    * Can't Rx any signals at all. Not even WWV. But the Elecraft
signal generator can be heard on it's specific frequencies at both 50
and 1 uV.
    * U6 can cook eggs on Rx!!
    * I checked the DC Voltages per pages E-5 and E-6 and found:
        * U1 pin 14 at 5V not 0.0
        * U1 pin 15@5V not 0.0
        * U2 pin 14 at 2.5V not 0.0
        * D3 Anode a 11.7V not 9.0
        * Others not checked because they are hidden by the 3080 board.
I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks,

Tom (taking the test(s) later this month) Pallen

Tom,

If U6 is getting hot, check for a short to ground at pin 1 or pin 2.
Both these pins must not have a DC path to ground.  The DC voltage on
both pins 1 and 2 should be close to 1.4 volts.  You can reach the pins
of all the components in the KX1 from the bottom of the board.
