Folks,
You might imagine how much I really like my K2; I caught the Elecraft
"bug" from it, and ordered a KX1 recently.
My various disabilities had led me to get help (meaning build it for me)
on the K2, and have been very happy with the results, but I decided to
attempt to fix my workshop up to accommodate some of my disabilities as
much as I could, and see if I could build the KX1.
My vision is fairly bad (cataracts) and aside from loss of light
sensitivity, there is some loss of color vision also; so sorting the
resistors and capacitors was a chore, and aside from an illuminated
magnifier to work with, I added a DVM to check the resistors before
installing them (and of course, do the testing steps) and a capacitance
and inductance meter to do the same with the chokes and check my toroid
winding where possible, and assure the correct value caps were used.
It is a bit of a strain to do, but so far so good; I am enjoying doing
this, and I have a small milestone to report tonight; KX1 serial number
1127 has passed assembly part 1, including all resistance, voltage, and
functionality tests.
Tomorrow I start with part 2 of the assembly - I will report back when I
get done with that or run into trouble; you folks on the list are an
inspiration, and these are so much fun as rigs, and as kits, so I am
smiling lots these days.
