For weekend getaways to a summer house, I have been successful with the
following equipment: KX1 with built-in tuner Sony sensitive earbuds Elecraft paddle and a spare (KXPD1 and Paddlette PK1) Power Station (7AH gel cell) with power cord 40-m dipole (with 300-ohm twinlead feedline) Antenna wire rolled up into a plastic camping clothesline reel. SD-20 fiberglas pole with 2 bungee cords to secure to the back deck BNC to Binding Post adaptor or Elecraft Balun Logbook and pen Sometimes I use a BLT tuner with a small BNC-to-BNC cable. For the beach, the pole fits into a fishing pole holder that is stuck in the sand. I carry a small meter and some tools like a multi-attachment screwdriver and a wire stripper/cutter. I also include some spare adaptors and a fresh set of internal batteries. I have worked all over the place on 40m, 30m, and 20m with great results. I've even worked some DX through pile ups. I'm looking for a nice, simple way to roll up the 50 feet of feedline. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi David,
I take the items you mention, plus the following: - a Pomona BNC-to-binding-post adapter - my "DX Canon" antenna system (24 ft antenna wire and two 12 ft radials) - extra AA batteries - Walkman style headphones, because ear buds don't stay in my ears! - pen and paper, for copying & logging - most importantly, my KX1 Cheatsheets - available free from my website: http://www.ve3hls.com 73, Ken Alexander, VE3HLS --- David Toepfer <[hidden email]> wrote: > Excluding the 4 most obvious potential items, > > KX1 Ultra-Portable CW Xcvr Kit (20+40 m) > KXPD1 Plug-in Keyer Paddle > KXB30 30 m Adapter > KXAT1 Internal Auto. Koss "The Plug" earbud headphones Pomona BNC to double 4-way binding post adaptor. On the other end banana plugs installed on outside two wires. Two small velcro straps to secure the wire to the pole. I have pictures of what I carry in a waist pack, and in an auxillary bag
for mobile. Click on the pictures for closeups and mouseover for captions. See http://wa5znu.org/log/2005/03/kx1-bag.html I got most of the ideas from a presentation by Wayne N6KR. Altogether it is smaller than the old Standard HT I have around somewhere. Not pictured are my Pac-12 which I often use, or (if I need a portable tree) a Cabelas 14ft pole or an SD-20 (depends on walking or driving).
