KX1

Jack Regan
My KX1 just came back from Don Wilhelm who installed the 30/80 module for me
and along the way fixed my low power output problem.

It was an improperly tinned/wound toroid!?%# Thanks Don.  Your as good as
your reputation!!

I got on the air right away and had a short QSO with Seattle WA.  I’m in SF.

BTW, my KX1 is fully loaded (including the paddle).

The antenna I used was a trapped dipole resonent at 7.140. I was calling on
7.040.  The KXAT1 did not make a very good match but I did call cq and got
thru with a 229 report.
Today I lengthened the dipole to give me a 1 to 1 SWR from 7.000 to 7.060.
It works fine and made contacts with Napa, CA., and AZ.

The same day I got the rig back from Don. I got my #534 wire from the
Wireman and I already have a Pomona 3296 so tommorrow I am going to start
testing “random” length wires.  I’ll post the results of my test as well as
the questions I have about the KX1/KAT1’s abilities to match dipoles and
Yagis to the Antenna thread.

This “short” note is just to let you know I am up, running and and happy.

Jack Regan, AE6GC

I will be interested in your results. My KX1 is still unbuilt. I will
get there eventually!
