KX144 questions

k2ua
Greetings. I recently acquired two K3s, and this is my first post to this
list. One of the K3s has the 2-meter module in it but I haven't had it on
the bench to test it. Looking to get some real data on the 2-meter module.

Background: I'm mainly an HF contester, but I've also been known to operate
on the higher bands. In the upcoming second weekend of the ARRL
10-GHz-and-Up Contest, I'll be operating on a few hilltops in ENY and New
England and I'd like to use the K3 with the KX144 as the IF radio for my
10-GHz transverter. So today I have two topics:

1) How far down can I dial the K3 RF output on 144 MHz? On a related note,
does the RF output spike toward full output (6-7 W) on key-down when the RF
output is dialed way down?

2) Can I disable the PA in the 2-meter module through a menu setting or
some other way that doesn't involve modifying the radio?

Looking to get down to the 20-mW level for IF drive. The transverter has a
single IF connection with PIN diode T/R switching. If needed, I could
separate the transmit IF input and the receive IF output, but it would be
better if I can keep the current configuration.

Thanks in advance.

There's plenty. All Elecraft manuals and many schematics are
downloadable as pdf files on their website. I can't think of a better start.
