Now that the KX3 ordering frenzy is in full force, my thoughts jump
ahead to integrating the KX3 for 144-148 MHz coverage. Assuming the KX3 will only cover 28-30 MHz (like the K3) for full xmit output, I am assuming there will be a 2-freq. LO in the 144-28 MHz module (transverter). Is there a control line brought out on any line on the accessory jack for controlling this? I have a DEMI 144-28 running that can "stand in" until the Elecraft 144-28 is ready for production. I am getting a PLL for the DEMI transverter which can be programmed for multiple freq. and has logic control for switching between pre-programmed freq. This will be set up for ch1=116.000 MHz and ch2=118.000 MHz, which permits full coverage of 144-148/28-30 MHz. But I need access to the KX3 for switching the LO freq. I will probably set up the KX3 in my shack for mundane duty monitoring 2m-FM channels. This will also be interfaced with a TNC for VHF-packet. Of course I will probably play HF-QRP with it on CW, WSPR, and psk-31. It also may serve as a 6m prop monitor when I am running the K3 on other bands. I am eager to install the embedded 2m module for the convenience of moving to-from mobile and for carry-on when traveling by air. Looking forward to popping in 8 AA's and taking it to FD this year. Bet I can be the first station that is on-air (using a 20m mobile ant.). 73, Ed - KL7UW, WD2XSH/45 ====================================== BP40IQ 500 KHz - 10-GHz www.kl7uw.com EME: 50-1.1kw?, 144-1.4kw, 432-QRT, 1296-?, 3400-? Hi, Ed.
Wayne mentioned yesterday (on the KX3 Yahoo Group) that the 2M module for the KX3 is planned to use a 6M IF. This means there will be no LO switching, as the base rig will tune 50-54 MHz to cover 144-148 on 2M. They hope to have a prototype ready for trial soon, possibly around the end of January '12. 73, Bruce, N1RX Ed Cole wrote: > Now that the KX3 ordering frenzy is in full force, my thoughts jump > ahead to integrating the KX3 for 144-148 MHz coverage. Great news! I'm planning on placing my order when the 2m board becomes available. I'm also super excited about the KX3, but I don't have a pressing need to be in the first run this time :). A KX3 w/ 2m in time for the June contests, however, would be fab!
