KX3 AGC threshold setting -- please re-check

Hi all,

A number of KX3s were delivered with the AGC THR menu entry set to a
high value (7). The default is now 5, which is recommended for most
types of operation.

Please check yours if you're not sure, or if you think the audio
dynamic range is too wide. Just go into the AGC THR menu entry and
adjust the parameter value. (This menu entry is not locked.)

Some ops are even using a threshold of 4 to further limit audio output
excursions on strong signals. It's a matter of personal preference.

A setting of 7 or 8 will result in a higher audio output levels on
strong stations, possibly leading some operators to reach for the RF
GAIN control. There's nothing wrong with this; some prefer to "ride"
RF GAIN, even turning AGC off (AGC MD menu entry) and using RF GAIN at
all times. There may be a small increase in clarity under heavy pile-
up conditions with these higher settings, too.

But "the rest of us" would probably be happier at 4 or 5.

Wayne
