How does the SWR/R/X range of the proposed KX3 AT compare with the T1?
And, just as important, will the KX3 'autotune' with the T1? I'm using a T1 with the K3 on all bands right now, with a 50' off- center-fed wire, 300-ohm twinlead, and a an Elecraft BL2 balun. Works great. As soon as the KXAT3 is ready, I'll be using that :) Wayne > > Inquiring minds, and all that jazz :) > > (Already have a T1 ^_^ ) > > Thanks.. > > -- > Dave G KK7SS > Richland, WA > > '59 Morris Minor 1000 - working on it.. > '65 Sprite - in process :( > '76 Midget - co-owned with #4 Son :) > '06 Honda Civic Hybrid > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Wayne,
Pardon me if I missed where the details were posted, but I'd like more info on the "50' off-center-fed wire" antenna you mention. I'm assuming you mean 50' long, but are you using the traditional 1/3 - 2/3 feedpoint or one of the other "offsets" that some authors mention? This sounds like a good possibility for a portable ops "wire in the trees" antenna. (My primary portable interest is 40/30/20/15 and I'd like to know how it loads on those bands.) In fact I've used this style of antenna with no feedline at all: just toss random length wires up into trees in two directions and connect them to the two balun inputs. The 1:1/4:1 switch on the BL2 is also helpful. On bands where the antenna presents a difficult impedance, this switch gives the ATU a different way to match that is often successful. 73, Wayne ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Wayne, how does your antenna work with the K1 ATU?

Quite well. The KAT1 has a smaller matching range than the T1 or KAT2/
KAT3, but it only has to handle 80-15 meters. 73, Wayne N6KR On Jun 21, 2011, at 5:51 PM, Rich NU6T wrote: > Wayne, how does your antenna work with the K1 ATU? > > Thanks > Rich > NU6T > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I use similar antenna set up as Wayne's for my K2 during portable
operation but use internal KAT2 instead of T1. The results have been very good and operaton is trouble free. I was playing with NECwin+ and found an interesting antenna. Later I
found it had already been invented but it was fascinating to see how the numbers worked. It was an off center fed doublet with the feed point at the 3/8 - 5/8 point. It worked well without a tuner for almost all bands. Play with the numbers and see if you can find a better feedpoint for an off center fed wire. 73, Kevin.
