[KX3] Light weight headset and external PTT

Gary Hawkins
I'm looking for a very light-weight headset for use with the KX3 when
portable.  Has anyone used the Microsoft Lifechat LX 2000 L2 Headphone -
these fold so reducing storage space?  Alternatively, does anyone have
any tried and tested light-weight, foldable headset they would recommend?

I'm planning to use this with a shirt mounted PTT switch.  I've an old
Yaseu SB-2 in my junk box that should be easy to modify.  Am I correct
in saying that the PTT switch can be connected to the KX3 through the
ACC2 connector.  If doing this directly, what tip/ring connections are
appropriate?  I presume I could also do this via the E980232 cable
adapter (which I have) and then make use of the tip/ring on 1/8th mono
plug for closed on contact for PTT ON.

Thanks in appreciation for input.  Also thanks to those who provided
feedback on my overheating issue (I'm already in process of making a
small sunshade from some old plastic tubing and cloth).

Gary,

I can't answer on the microphone, but I can respond to your PTT question.
PTT is available on the microphone plug and also on the ACC2 jack tip
(if you set the menu for it).
The Elecraft cable adapter for the ACC2 connector can be used for PTT.
Just set the KX3 menu for ACC2 IO to LO-PTT and it should work.

If you have no other uses for the ACC2 connector (KeyOut to an
amplifier), you might want to consider replacing the 3.5mm plug on your
PTT switch with a 2.5mm stereo plug with the switch connected between
the tip and sleeve.  If you must reduce space required, changing the
plug may be the better option as opposed to using the Elecraft ACC2
cable as an adapter.
