KX3 New Radio Observations

John_N1JM
After a couple of days of using my new KX3 all seems to function quite nicely.
My only gripe is the SSB receive audio seems rough at times. This is with
external or internal speaker or headset. Internal speaker seems worse as I would
expect. Audio seems better with roofing filter out of circuit(FL1). Doing an A/B
with the K3 , the K3 is of course fine. Anyone got comments about this? I've
tried different agc threshold levels, etc.

Another observation....when tuning across a single carrier(XG1) in ssb mode with
FL2, I notice that a second fairly strong tone appears as I tune away(higher pitch) from the
original. Switching to FL1 the new tone disappears. Anyone else notice this?
Maybe it's an artifact of the conversion scheme and normal?? This is not there
in cw mode.

To elaborate a little further, if I tune through an SSB signal going to high pitch, I can here what sounds like the mirror or ghost image of the original signal. It sounds like the opposite sideband. Turning the filter to FL1 , the "ghost" signal goes away.

Sounds like there is some slight imbalance in your roofing filter settings. I suggest you go through the alignment procedure to minimise this image (see the owner's manual, looking under "Receive Sideband" heading in the Calibration section). Be sure to write down the current settings first in case you want to return to them later.
