I have been twisting the KX3's PBT I/II knob madly in an attempt to
change BW or CF rapidly, but in reality when I turn it more slowly the function actually changes more rapidly. Two possible explanations are either the encoder pulse rate exceeding the I/O refresh rate, or the speed with which the filter DSP can reconfigure. I would love to be able to change CF and BW more rapidly, being spoiled by the instantaneous response of my old Drake R-4B's analog IF parametric filter. If the speed limitation with the KX3 is indeed a refresh issue, is there a way to increase the I/O refresh rate for the PBT encoder to allow for faster filter change via the knob? Of course, if it is a DSP horsepower issue, it is what it is. The overall performance of the KX3's receiver is so far superior to the R-4B, I don't want to use the R-4B much any more (well for that reason plus tube, old capacitors, size, power requirements and other issues, but that is another story). I'll put in a vote for this improvement in a future firmware release too,
if it's possible. It would make the knob feel more responsive, and would be consistent with the behavior of the adjacent knobs. --Andrew, NV1B maineware.net .. Howie,
I may be able to make the control more responsive. Meanwhile, you might experiment with the NORM function as a means of switching between two different width settings. Holding NORM will alternate between the default (400 Hz in CW mode) and a "floating" setting that you establish. 73, Wayne N6KR On Sep 24, 2012, at 8:29 AM, Howard Hoyt wrote: > I have been twisting the KX3's PBT I/II knob madly in an attempt to > change BW or CF rapidly, but in reality when I turn it more slowly the > function actually changes more rapidly.
