KX3: Panadapter software for Mac?

Andrew Moore-3
Sorry for the newbie/FAQ question but I've tried the Google searches,
forums, etc. and still come up without a solution.

I'm trying to find native Mac OS X panadapter software for my KX3 (not
interested in running Bootcamp, Parallels, VMWare, etc. at this time).

Tried DSP Radio and I get a mirror image, and when tuning around by
click/dragging the cursor, I can sometimes induce some kind of runaway
feedback loop... something's just not quite right.

It appears that lots of people have run into the mirror image problem, but
I haven't yet found an explanation.

Setup is simple:

(MacBook Pro audio port)---(3.5 mm stereo cable)---(3.5 to 2.5 mm
adapter)---(KX3 I/Q port)

Suggestions welcome.  Off-list is fine.

DSP Radio from DL2SDR works fine.

I have a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2011, which has a stereo line-in. If the audio line-in port on the Mac is not stereo, you will see images (not sure what is provided on the latest macbook pros)

You need to set up an aggregate sound device on the Mac with the appropriate number of bits, channels and sampling rate, and then in DSP radio blow away the existing configurations and create a new configuration line that references this. If you make a mistake, delete the configuration line and recreate it with the correct values, otherwise some strange things can happen.

There are a number of videos on youtube walking you through this, eg.

Another option could be to use the Quisk SDR application, but it may take a little work to get it to compile properly under OSX.

The problem appears to be the 2.5 to 3.5 mm adapter. When the cable is
plugged into the adapter, the adapter seems to be shorting one of the
signals to ground.

Time to find a new adapter.

Re: KX3: Panadapter software for Mac?

Matt Maguire
You're better off to wire up your own cable with a 2.5mm right-angle plug, or purchase on of the cable kits from Elecraft. Using a 3.5-2.5mm adaptor can do serious damage to your radio if bumped.
